Any ornithologists out there? Yesterday I saw a flock of birds, 50 - 60 perhaps, landing in a field of stubble and begin eating the seeds (i assume) They were the size of a collared dove with black backs and a white underside - definately NOT magpies though. Any ideas?

Had the same experience last week but ours were Redwings. They were feeding for over half an hour and a lovely sight to see.Go round in flocks this time of year. All just disappeared within a minute. No pic as was pouring down and misty.

It's apple time - perhaps they are redwings and blackbird family diving onto the apples left over from autumn - I adore watching them from the windows .... is like a heaving soil

Not after windfalls.Spread right across grassed area and seemed to be eating everything in their path-all going in same direction.Just like a police search.
