I watched a programme over Christmas, a sort of tribute to Cilla Black hosted by Paul O'Grady. I am not a huge fan of CB but I grew up through that era when the Mersey sound was big.
At the end of the show, Cilla sung one of her songs, the Liverpool Lullaby and I couldn't believe the words had been changed.
The verse should be;
Oh you are a mucky kid, Dirty as a dustbin lid, When he hears the things you did, You'll ger a belt from your Dad
The last line was changed to; you'll get told off by your Dad
These kind of songs represent an era in social history. In the 60's if you misbehaved you probably would get a belt from your dad, and the cane at school, I know I did. I am not going to get into the rights and wrongs of corporal punishment, my point is that this song was written at a point in time when parents often did smack their children. There are many songs which tell stories of a time when things happened which would be frowned on today. So what are these PC idiots trying to do? change history, pretend it never happened? This sort of pointless meddling gets me so exasperated. Grrrr

After Cilla had made a name for herself she bought her parents (I think) a house whose garden backed onto my friend's parents house. I was about 15 at the time and would sleep over at my friends place - it was always a novelty to watch Cilla doing the washing up in her parents house.

I would rather watch her washing up than listen to her singing!

Second and third that!--I worked out of Skelhorne St Liverpool as a National Express Driver(-used to be National Travel West in the old days !!!)-but my homebase was Caernarfon N wales. I was always called a Serviceman!- my routes could be Caernarfon- Edinburgh,Caernarfon- London Caernarfon- Cromer etc.i WAS VERY PROUD TO BE THE SERVICEMAN
I found no problem with that-it was my service,I was responsible for Coach,Passengers Connections and Luggage,I find it ridiculous now it becomes Serviceperson! whatever,PC has been carried on way too far,and actually in some cases makes no sense-BUT that is my opinion.

Oh happy days, I did quite a bit of National Express or Royal Blue as it was then when I first started, mostly on Saturday duplicates in the days when Exmouth-London via Bournemouth return was an overnight trip.
