Good luck to the player,to make as much money as possible in the shortest possible time, he could be injuryed tomorrow and never kick a ball again. He will be lucky to see out his contract before he is sold on again. [/quote]
Using your logic may I ask how you value the soldiers coming back from Afghanistan with their limbs blown off or the guy disarming a bomb, the firefighter going into a burning building to save a child, the policeman looking down the barrel of a a sawn-off shotgun? There are hundreds of thousands of people who go to work everyday never knowing if they will be injured, never work again, or worse.
I am not suggesting of course that they should be paid £300,000 a week, but if they are not, a bl**dy footballer certainly shouldn't be. My point is that how we value people is out of all proportion.

We are talking about sport and business.Business has paid for the transfer sponsorship pays for the wages and the player puts bums on seats and sells himself and the club to the sponsor. That is how it is.
Formula one drivers earn a comparable amount but nothing is said about them or is your post antifootball.

I hate football and I especially loathe footballers - for very good reason. I was a WAG for 7 miserable years, I've seen it, endured it, got the tshirt and all the rest of the crap that accompanies them. They do not justify such ridiculous wages for doing so little. Training is just a morning per day usually starting at ten and done by the time the pubs are serving lunches, consisting of an hour or two poncing about, two matches a week at most after which (unless they have REALLY played appallingly) they'll get a day off to "recover". In the case of many that involves being as drunk as possible. Nothing has changed since I endured ALL that garbage because all the stories in the media merely confirm that is still carrying on as it did all those years ago, a self-perpetuating gallery of debauchery. And yes I am biased! Can you see why the one that came sniffing round my daughter got sent packing then???

I actually said that no one is worth that sort of money, no matter what they do. Please don't call it sport when these obscene amounts of money are involved because as you rightly acknowledge, it is big business, be it football, Formula 1 or anything else. Sport is when a game is played between individuals or teams for their pleasure and the entertainment of supporters. Like I said in my opinion we have lost touch with reality when it comes to deciding peoples true worth. To answer your question, yes I hate football with a vengance but this is about more than that, it just happened that it was a football related story sparked me to question obscene payments to individuals, it could equally have been banker's bonuses.
