Disgusting behavior, and totally unprofessional, has Inverdale never heard the expression "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and who is he to judge.
I hope in the future he does not make it to be a commentator.

Judith for me you have hit a nerve with this post - so I'm sorry but I'm going to have a rant!! I am a tennis fanatic and am just about sick and tired of the deal that women in tennis get. Listen to a mens commentary - its about shot making and tennis skills. Listen to a womens match and its about whether she looks nice in the new outfit, the nails, the hair etc and of course how they ( the commentator) cannot stand the grunting. Listen to Nadal, Ferrer etc etc - they all grunt. For those who don't play, it can actually help your timing! The bad commentaries are not confined to men discussing women - the women commentators do it too. For a long time tennis commentary in general has been poor - commentators have become psychics and can tell you what players are thinking. In the womens game they will tell you everything they are doing wrong - this coming from non players or ex players who barely made the qualifiing rounds. In my opinion the only person I have any respect for in the commentary box is Boris Becker - he only speaks when a comment is called for and comments are informed and non judgemental. I have tried watching the watches without the sound but unfortunately you don't here the ball or the atmosphere so that is not the answer. Regarging the bbc coverage - you settle in to watch and find they have switched the match to another channel or the red button. Fine if its a long match and they have to stop for the news or something, but NO, its so they can put on a different match. Finally The d***head who has made the comments about Marion - totally unprofessional and I am wondering....has he no mirrors in his house??? Well done Marion - a great win

A slight variation on that old saying seems appropriate. "Those that can, DO Those that can't, COMMENTATE. All sports would be vastly improved without the panel of old wafflers banging-on endlessly about the perceived errors of those actually out there playing the game, let alone the bunch of old farts scorning a woman's choice of frock, her nail varnish or the fact she does'nt look like Brigitte Bardot in 1965 (as all French women are supposed to apparently). Personlly I loathe sports, I have no interest in football (especially), tennis, rugby, darts, cricket, cycling, international paint-drying - ANY OF IT. However to use a stupid tennis match to denigrate the beauty of the winner of the Wimbledon Ladies final, well that really takes the biscuit does'nt it? I hope this berk gets the slagging-off he richly deserves from all quarters.

Well put, mirabelle!
Some of these male commentators just love the sound of their own voices and if they haven't got anything informative to say about the sport itself, they start criticising all sorts of things like the weather or someone's looks. The sad thing is, female players who don't look like the latest model are easy targets. As bisdu says, such commentating is totally unprofessional.
I did, however, like Clare Baldwin's (female!) commentating at The Olympics. She was particularly good at bringing in the families of the competitors and acknowledging that true success comes from a lot of hard work. Some things are more important than boobs, bums and spray tans!

Clare is of course a very "special" kind of woman I wish she'd get a hold of this damnable commentator and put his lights out for him as he so richly deserves! In any case Andy Murray is no oïl painting yet nobody slagged him off for having weird hair or anything so WHY did that imbecile think it acceptable to criticise that girl - to her face even? And would this cretin have DARED to tell Martina Navratilova she was a minger? She would have insterted her racket somewhere that would have made his weasly eyes water IMO he should be sacked instantly and sent back to counting old video clips in some archive in the depths of a decrepit old storage depot. What a total asshat grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Anyone remember Dan Maskell - perish the thought that he would have made such an ungentlemanly comment
