For the locals ........... Le Dimanche 7 juillet, c'est la fête de l'Agneau du pré salé, occasion d'un méchoui géant dudit agneau, après l'avoir béni à la messe dominicale en plein air dans le village de Courtils, à 4 km du Mont Saint Michel.
July 9th 2010 in Brittany and Normandy the AOC Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée was awarded for pre-sale lamb. 7th July this year, from 12 midday at Courtils (stade de football) there is a dedicated fete with a BBQ of said pre-sale lamb.

So they're 'pre-salted' sheep then, Ali, having grazed on saltmarsh? We have beef like that over here you know...
Was also touched to learn from your post that the meat is first blessed in a Church ceremony. They take their food very seriously those French, bringing a religious devotion to it...

I think they may have only been blessed the once Annon - today.
It was a typical French gathering, nothing at all special and totally un-commercialised, part of me wants to yell sell sell sell and make more of it yet another part says...... well this is Normandy....

But did it taste salty, Ali? My question is hugely important in the context of your original post. I simply don't want to know about sheep grazing on saltmarsh and then not tasting salty. Would seem a waste of good saltmarsh....

...and do you think that the sheep died young from high blood pressure because of having eaten too much salt? It may be the reason why they never grew beyond being lambs. So if anyone ever offers you pre-salted sheep, and not lamb, be very suspicious?  Do you think if someone like me who doesn't take salt found the meat too salty, it would be alright to rinse the meat several times in fresh water? I think these questions are important Ali.. |

There's also an animal welfare issue here, Ali. These lambs are dying prematurely from heart attacks brought on by high salt intake. How can we stand back and watch them keel over, dropping like flies, uttering a last, feeble 'baa' as they hit the deck? ? STOP THIS TRADE IN SALTY LAMB! |
