This is not a joke, it is a true story.
When I worked for London Buses I went into the canteen one lunchtime and joined the queue. In front of me was a small Scottish driver who was laughing and joking as he waited. As we moved along he picked up a tray and put a bread roll a drink and a pudding on it, he then ordered 'today's special' for his main course. A portion was scooped onto a plate, covered in a plastic lid and put in the industrial microwave for a couple of minutes then duly handed to him.
The driver removed the lid, looked at his plate, then looking at the assistant who had just handed it to him said in a broad Scottish accent, " do you know it takes the human body 3 hours to turn food into sh*t? congratulations! you have just managed it in 3 minutes.....

No it wasn't Thornton Heath, I was based in North London, probably Willesden or maybe Cricklewood, many years ago now. They did vary, my home depot for a while was Harrow Weald and the canteen there was good.

My last contract before moving here was at the Health Protection Agency at Porton Down. The canteen was rather good, as well as serving nice fresh food there were little pots of snacks on sale. One such range of pots were filled with yoghurt coated peanuts. The cover had written on it: 'Health Protection Agency; may contain nuts'!!! Well, there were indeed plenty there, and not just amongst the contract staff
