Jackie, have you read my "Laird of Misrule" post? No? Well read it through, think about those figures, then tell us why you trust McBroon at the helm. I've read it Stavvy & yes I'm afraid I still do trust him more than Cameron & Osbourne. I'm afarid I can't forget the cock-ups during the Thatcher years by Lamont & Lawson. The disastrous ERM debarcle, millions of unemployed which sowed the seeds for many of todays social problems, sky-high interest rates, the housing market booms & crashes etc etc... Thatcher said 'there is no such thing as society' Cameron says 'Society is broken' I think he should look back a few more years & he'll find the immaculately coiffered & made-up culprit responsible....

now this really is getting very silly.
I'm afraid that as far as I see it, the country voted for Conservatives & Cameron - Labour & Brown DID NOT get the majority vote - I am struggling to see under what conditions Brown thinks it would be right for him to stay.
IF Clegg teams up with Brown (or even generally, with labout) and Brown remains prime minister - then something will be VERY WRONG
I am not a Brown supporter, nor am I a Labour supporter - but neither do I think that the recession is his fault, it WASN'T, it happened all over the world!!! And in fact I think that Brown may have been the best man to have been there during the recession. BUT he DID NOT GET THE MAJORITY VOTE
*huffs*

Just two comments on this debacle:
Go back and look at the numbers - apart from a couple of good ideas in 2008 to get Britain out of a banking crisis which he should have helped prevent, particularly in the case of Northern Rock all he has done is increase spending, increase government interference in the lives of the citizen, increase immigration, and increase the numbers employed by the state (i.e.created a labour clientele). Even the couple of good ideas were in fact suggested to Darling by Swiss bankers, and discussed with Brown, who then claimed them as his own...
He is a Scottish MP. The Scots have de facto autonomy except for defence and foreign policy, but central government still pays out more per capita for the Scots than for the English, while Scottish MPs continue to have their say in Westminster on purely English affairs. English MPs have no say in how the Scottish assembly runs Scotland. So, if this de facto autonomy became de jure, we would be rid of "foreign interference" and Davis Cameron would have his majority.

Well, McBroon is no more, did he do the honourable thing and resign to help labour stay in power? But at least he didn't have to be forcibly booted out of the door with a pair of size 11's like Maggie. Wonder who's gonna lead the labour party now?

As I read the reports so far, he is going to quit as leader "before the party conference" - which is scheduled for the autumn. Perhaps the morning broadsheets will throw more light on what he is really intending.
