Have you fully researched the early release policy, John, or are you guessing? There is so much prison overcrowding that most prisoners serve half their sentences, even when convicted of violent crimes.

As I understand it, prisoners generally get released after serving half their sentence. To me this makes a mockery of an already lenient justice system. What is the point of handing out a sentence then halving it? If a judge considers a crime deserves 5 years in prison then that should be the minimum served. There should be no early release for good behavior but sentences should be extended for bad behavior. If the prisons are full, build more prisons or make sentences shorter and far more unpleasant. People should leave prison never wanting to go back, not looking for a way to get re-arrested. And as for politicians, they should be made examples of for abusing the laws that they create.

To be perfectly honest I can't be arsed with any of this story.
So what, he said his wife was driving. I'd say same (if I had a wife that is, which I haven't of course!) if my licence was more important - I'd think nothing of it.
If I have missed the point in all this then so be it coz I really don't want to waste my time in even looking into it or reading about it.
So, they're both out of prison. Blardy heck 8 weeks would be far long enough for me.
Lock up the cold blooded murders for good, spend the money on that instead of a simple driving offence. Stuart Hazell for example.

I wasn't commenting on your thread itself JP, there was no message to you, I was commenting on the event. Discussion and varied views are a good thing, in this instance my views are differing from yours
