Was this person really mentally ill? Its difficult to accept that someone kills in so many in one go and isn't but its possible.

You wouldnt expect me, JP, to agree to your proposal to lock up the loonies...
First of all, I don't believe that 'care in the community' extends to all cases anyhow, so some of the loonies are already locked up.
Secondly, we do not understand psychiatric disorders well enough to make objective decisions in all cases. If we were to pursue a policy of locking people up 'just in case', half the population would have to be contained...
Littlemouse hits the nail on the head by suggesting you don't have to be diagnosed mentally ill to 'flip'. Your average joe on a bad trip can do it. I know of an individual who would be capable of doing anything if you catch him on a bad day....
When we view it as only fair that 'ify' people are locked up, it's only fair to us, not to them, which is a real bummer, 'cos then it's not fair at all....

I can see where you are coming from Littlemouse, and in the main agree with you, BUT I do think making the keeping of firearms illegal would be a start. It is too easy to say, 'there is nothing we can do, so leave it as it is'. I know that is not what you said, but it is what a lot of people say in situations like this. I firmly believe that firearms have no place in the home at all. Many will disagree with me, but that is MY belief. I also believe that drugs are a major contributor to many acts of violence in the world today, be it one person attacked or as in the case we are discussing a school full of innocent children. Drugs, depending on what drugs are used and how much is used, must mess with the mind to a greater or lesser extent. Right... rant over on my part!

Tis true Annon. Psychopathy is a behavioural disorder and not a mental disease. Rampton is full of them and they will stay there because they can't be cured and they can't be cured because it isn't a disease or illness. Same for Paedophiles; purely behavioural. I would argue that that disorder cannot be changed either. Labotomy would do I think so they don't force others into their behaviour of Paedophilia. For one Paedophile will produce a number of new ones and so on and so on. That isn't to say that all victims turn into Paedophiles.

Well thanks for explaining that, CC, I've learnt something today.....
'Behavioural disorder' explains the point I'm trying to make better than I've managed so far. There's an aweful lot of people out there with 'behavioural disorders', and a lot of them live in America.....
It's said that Humpty-Dumpty was based on the proverbial village idiot. I think we'd call him 'learning disabled' today. The housewives would look out for him, and the menfolk would engage him in farm work where they could. It was 'care in the community' with a human face.. .. But we don't have housewives anymore, and men don't work on farms.....
In Victorian times the Census asked whether any members of the family were 'imbeciles'. They just accepted it as a fact of life. I think that The Way We Live Now has created more 'imbeciles' than occurs naturally......

Indeed. I was researching my family tree going as far back as my great great grandparents. I discovered that whilst there were no "imbeciles" in my family, some other households were registered as having "cretins" abiding under their roofs.

"When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty."
"No free man shall ever be de-barred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain their right to keep and bear arms is as a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
Thomas Jefferson.
Obama knows this and wants to disarm the people.
