12 year old Picasso, 100k on clock, passed CT today with no probs. Of course I do look after it and fix things when needed but only major job's have been front spring and timing belt. Only time it let me down was because of battery. It has never failed an MOT or CT

Brilliant Thats great news - you can go get some more wood now with the lolly that you don't have to spend on the car They do seem to have been making cars pretty darn good nowadays. I'll always remember our rotton ole ones when I was younger, Austin 1100's and 1300s - didn't dare go further than the local town!

In comparison, I have a 6 year old Alfa 159 which I am due to change on Monday for a Renault Vel Satis. The Alfa has 300.000km on the clock and has never failed a CT, but repairs and servicing has cost me €8500 over the last 5 years not including tyres (new set every 6 months approx.) or fuel. I would still say however that this has been a good car, I just regret paying the main dealer for an extended warranty which proved expensive and what a surprise never ever covered anything! They always said it was 'wear and tear'. I also found the main dealers (I tried 3 over the years) to be totally useless, they no longer employ mechanics, they have technicians who plug your car into their computer and then tell you there is nothing wrong!!!! Now found an old fashioned local garage who knows what they are doing - hooray!

Funny you say that Ali, I used to be a Mini fanatic and have had 13 of them in various states of tuning (full race, rally etc etc.) I used to get the engines out of Austin 1100 and 1300s and put them into the Mini as the gearboxes were better and the Minis were originally only 850cc (till the Cooper that is).
Funny don't ever remember telling my insurers though!!!!!!!!!!!

I too am a Citroen convert. Always warned off them in the UK but bought my first one, a ZX diesel estate, 6 years ago. I have put it through 3 CT's with just a small job required last time. Never let me down, it is 16 years old and has 453.000km on the clock. Original engine, it uses no oil and starts first time.

I can't say I have heard about undue problems with lower sulphur fuels and I think they have been around for a long time now. What do you think?

Interesting pandj, Not sure about adding extra oils to the fuel. I can't say I have heard about undue problems with lower sulphur fuels and I think they have been around for a long time now. What do you think? My cars are both petrol so can't speak from personal experience, but I belong to a Rover 75 forum and some on there who run diesels are saying how they add 2 stroke oil whenver they fill up, apparently it does give smoother and quieter running.
