Why were they buried? Forgive me, but I haven't followed this particular news item at all.

Buried in Burma Dink and poss they were unused during the war being shipped in to use versus Japan hence covered up from enemy just in case perhaps? But so far I've read nothing that gives an idea why they were buried. Hopefully they'll be intact coz they're supposed to be in crates and in parts. When shipped they would've been packed well.
It's thought 36 planes could be lying undiscovered in Mingaladon - one of three sites - where it is believed as many as 60 Spitfires in total may be located.
Hats off to farmer Cundall who has spent an absolute fortune and followed up huge amount of leads. If they do unearth spits in Jan 13 it will be incredible after about 67 years of them possibly being there.
So exciting! Love those brave little planes.

Thanks for that, Ali Yes, it does sound very exciting, doesn't it..... Do hope they find them AND all in working order too. I can just imagine the spectacle of them flying all way home in formation I'm probably just romancing, but it would be wonderful, wouldn't it?
