The French polices reaction is a little strange. They are not actively looking for them if the press reports are to believed. So no mobile phone checks which would possibly pin point them direct or give a trail. No credit card whatching!!!! They have reported treated as missing person, well if as a missing person they do no checks no wonder no one is ever found!!!!!!! Of course for them she is not under age at all, frightening as Elise is 15 next feb.

Interesting Em that 15 is not underage in France nor in many other European countries. Why then does the UK have the highest teenage pregnancy rate despite the age of consent being older?

Interestingly Ofsted give the school an "outstanding" for Child Safeguarding in 2010 despite a teacher being prosecuted, and given a 7 year jail sentence in 2009.

And apparently a former governor due in court soon for related offences! Totally agree with you Em, nothing at all in the Ouest France but I have to confess we don't have French TV so no idea what if anything has been reported on there. Technically of course she is a "missing" person, and by all the reports I've seen so far, she doesn't appear to have been forcibly abducted. What HAS got me thinking though - and maybe it's because we live in France and my daughter's are more "sheltered" than if we were in the UK - whenever my eldest gets a crush, she always tells me about it and asks my advice. She may not then like what she hears, but it seems to stop and make her think a little (as in, do I choose the one who seems really nice and to really like me, or the other one who's stood me up three times but I really like him). Not of course that that's at all relevant to Megan's "disappearance", but I'd like to think that my daughters could approach me if something was bothering them.

Consent at 15 ............... Well if I'm truly honest at 40 something there's not many local French men that I'd fancy in the least !
Caught a snippet when passing the radio yesterday that it was thought that they are no longer in France?

Well once you have crossed to France very easy to go by road to lots of places! One thought with out money how are they going to eat, get petrol, etc? Have planned this very well or there is more to it than meets the eye? Or he is having to use his cash card or will have to shortly in which case....... We all have teenagers the first week will be exciting but how long will she want to be with out a mobile, the internet, a bath, clean clothes, people she knows. It is at this point it get dangerous for her.

My guess is Spain, where he can pick up bar work quite easily and no language issues. Trouble is the season is coming to an end now, so work won't be plentiful.
If they've got any sense the school will have stopped payment of his September salary - or maybe that will be a way of catching him if he goes to withdraw his money.

I would suspect that the only Maths this teacher will be doing soon, will be adding the X number of years of his prison sentence to his year of capture, to calculate his release date.
I have no sympathy for him. He may well be wearing the rose tinted lurve glasses, but he's the grown up in the relationship and could/should have handled the situation better.

NOT relevant to this case - but totally agree with Ali - near us there are only 2 who I would consider "worth considering" - and guess what - THEY'RE BOTH BLOODY WELL GAY!!!!! (And of course I've learnt the French for "what a waste")!

the girl has done a runner with an older man.she isn't the only one to have done that is she? Why all the fuss? The hulabaloo has made it really difficult for either or both to return now,he will lose his job she will not be listened t, so criminal proceedings will follow against him.The parents and school wring their hands. We have something to talk about.
