I have friends for supper tomorrow and need to cook some, "no faff' food.
I thought of having a chicken with salads, and then cheeses and tiramisu.
It's the salady bit that's a pain. So far, leaf salad, home made potato salad, and then that's me done.
Any other ideas would be really helpful.

a salad based on the french crudites gratted carrot, cabbage, apple, mix well and put some walnuts on top. Every one likes it that I know that's not a child.......... It is also very healthy, suitable for diabetic(spelling), and people on low fat diets for heart problems.

Haha...you should have seen Mimi with her nose pressed pathetically against the window whilst the blooming hedgehog was tucking into her supper.
It was like a scene from Oliver Twist.

You'll have Judith after you, Ali - it's either creme fraiche (as you know, my accents don't work on my lappy) or fromage frais. Cos creme is feminine and fromage masculine - oops, I am becoming pedantic - must be time for another holiday!

You may want to try this one, Cosima. Not a lot of faffing about and a little out of the ordinary.
Adjust any of the quantities to suit yourself but I do it this way; per person.
3 largish strawberries, but not so large that they maybe 'woody' sliced not too thinly. 2 rashers of streaky bacon cooked to crispness but not burnt, cut to suit about strawberry size. You can use unsmoked poitrine thinly sliced if no streaky bacon. 5 thin slices of Brie just ripe, Camembert works but not as well. Handful of salad leaves, rocket, lambs, maybe a few baby spinach leaves as well; anything to hand that has a 'taste' to it.
Arrange the leaves on a small plate, add the bacon, brie, and strawberrys. Grind a few grains of black pepper on each strawberry slice, must be freshly ground. Just before serving drizzle a little balsamic vinegar, best quality proper modena if poss, over the dish and see what people make of this combination of tastes.
Sorry if I am a little vague about my recipes but I tend to do the quantitys that seem about right to me and to make a plate that looks right too.
If you are doing the chicken warm then a bowl of just wilted spinach with toasted pine kernels and pieces of streaky bacon stirred in is quick to do as well. Try stirring in a little of the fat from the pan the bacon has been fried in too, enhances the taste. Of course I am talking of proper cured bacon not the pumped with water stuff. Smoked poitrine is even better cut into smallish 'chunks'.
If you want to give them an unusual salad in taste I do a thai beef salad but it takes quite a while to make the dressing, but cooking the beef rare is only a few minutes and it is served cold. Has one hell of a bite to as well but you can tone it down. Will take a bit of typing up too; ask if you want it.
