I had that list by the desktop until Mr LK tidied it away cos one of our neighbours has a grandaughter called Loisa (with trema on the i) - but you would laugh, I can't make any of them work on this laptop!

Ali, us poor mac users only have to press one key to type all of the frenchy thingys, ie « is only Alt plus \ not Alt plus 174, so ner ner ner if you type e with the alt key pressed you get é Alt pus c gives ç if you type q with the alt key pressed you get œ etc etc
Elky, laptop keyboards can be a pain the use of numlock can give thingys but some kboards affects letters, have you tried either using the US keyboard setting or the UK extended option. Again some of these are dependent upon which version of windows u are running. Can give u chapter and verse but it is a bit boring and longwinded. let me know if you want to 'glaze over'.
***** Forgot to mention the US keyboard option works pretty well like the mac with a few more keystrokes, the uk extended option uses the Alt Gr key so é is Alt Gr and press e. Ç Alt Gr and C or c
