Due to the problems with flights the ferry was busy with lots of foot passengers trying to get home. Were you on the Portsmouth StMalo boat last night as well? I picked Sue up from StM and she was on the 4th (FOURTH) passenger bus from the boat to the terminal! The car park was solid (I was the last car to get into the carpark and there were no official spaces, so I just had to tag onto the end of a row)

We were on the St. Malo to Portsmouth ferry (Bretagne) yesterday after our Thursday Ryanair return flight was cancelled. It was packed with additional foot passengers like ourselves.
Just a couple of observations:
Despite the extra passengers on board, the "posh" restaurant was still pretty empty. I guess most of those travelers had already incurred additional costs and weren't going to splash out on an expensive meal. (We did because we wanted to treat ourselves for having to spend an extra 15 hours getting to our destination compared with the flight!) I think it goes to show that the restaurant experience is no longer an integral part of the trip for most.
Also, it was chaotic in the check in lounge at St. Malo but no one had the foresight to create a separate queue for the poor doggies who were getting their paws wheeled over by suitcases etc. They had to get in the long winding queue with everyone else. If my crazy retriever had been there she would have done her pieces.
We just count ourselves lucky we managed to get home.

It appears to have affected crossings further into future than just now too, we're having to revert to LD Lines to get a crossing (booking a week and a half in advance) as BF are full.

I travelled on the fast cat Normandie Vitesse Portsmouth - Cherbourg?? LOL due to fuel prices this crossing now takes a good half an hour longer than it did in the past. Personally I much prefer the boats, like the Barfleur.
