Has anyone got one of these? If so which brand/model and is it easy enough to find the localised mapping down to cycle path level??

This may not apply to you Ali, but my daughter who is a cyclist and wild camper (no comments) is currently using an iPhone in a waterproof case for her navigation. She used to use Garmin standard satnav set to walking mode. Her reason is the quality of the mapping she can get on the iPhone. Currently she has access to the latest ordinance survey maps which of course are very detailed.
I believe that android phones have access to this too but of course these and the iPhone will attract data charges from your provider, but of course all detail will be absolutely up to date.
I use an old magellan for moorland walking (and maps and compass too). No running costs except software.
Check out the garmin edge as i think my daughter has one of these too.
The maps i used to use in France for cycling, canal paths etc were Cartes Institut Goeographique National. I have a feeling that this level of detail is available through navigon maps software plus others, and possibly public access to electronic CIGN but you will need to check that out over there.

Just to forestall all those members whose first reaction is,
' What cycling! Surely not that old bugger on a bike. Must be taking the P.'
Examine the piccie, ok I admit is is probaly 1990 but I was riding in France. This is up in the Haute Savoie but had worked myself in to fitness by a week or so in the Loire valley on gentle rides.
No sat nav then.

You may have a very valid point. My first thoughts are 'Tek' just coz. But yesterday I was out 'off-roading' down tractor paths just using copies of sat maps I'd take off Google - come to think of it .... what a very valid excuse for stopping ....... to read a map (aka knackered and need legs back)
Change-over in town tomorrow so I'll check out what is in the supermarket (close to Mt St Michel so very touristy) and look for a rando.
Thanks Lib, you may have just saved me a few hundred quid in kit that prob isnt necessary! x

If its any help the maps i used were 1 to 100000.
That is 1Cm to 1 Km does show cart tracks etc but don't know if there are any better scale. In UK you can get very detailed maps to cover a small area but i never looked into that in France as the 1cm to 1 km did the job for me.
