Knitted cossies were brill, when they got wet they got heavier and heavier, eventually falling down and leaving your poor little wet bod exposed! Fantastic!

Not sure, but I remember knitted trousers. Hated them with a vengeance and felt like a plonker. Mind you, I didn't like the party dresses which grandma bought me for Xmas either. Obviously I should have been wearing jeans and wellies!

My very first cossie was ruched cotton, but my DAD had knitted swimming shorts. I always remember him saying - don't hold me by the shorts, they will fall off! I couldn't see the problem as I was only about 4 or 5 (had the ruched cotton cossie from aged about 3 to about 7 - it started off blue and green on a white background but was very faded the summer Mum declared that I had grown out of it!) )
As far as I was concerned if the water was deep or scary grabbing whatever bit of Dad I could catch hold of was fair game!! My Mum was as I am now with regard to swimming, she'd stay in the shallows with Dad and myself for a while then she'd swim off into the distance and leave Dad and me to play.

Well I think you were all jolly lucky. Not only did you have swimmies but also did swimming.
Still can't beleive anyone ever wore anything kitted for swimming in !!!
My pet hate from school swimming days, coz thats all I got, was the rubber swimming caps that we were forced to wear. Fearsome implements that pulled your hair outa your roots both on and off !!
