My favourite! I can smell them from here, they look so good.
Now here's a quick lesson for you! In your recipe book you need to write the recipe down as "pain aux raisins." You need the x on the au due to the plural quantity of raisins you have put in, othewise one rasin wouldn't be enough. Of course, it wouldn't matter in spoken French.
eg. gâteau aux fruits - not au fruit
but coq au vin because it's only one type of wine

They are SUPERB! I'm gobsmacked. Normally the first time cooking anything like that is a bit iffy, but they're brilliant. I think the whole world has got 'au' and 'aux' all topsy turvy on this one coz I did check the internet for the recep for PaR and used one for 'Pain Au Raisins' ;D Try googling it, it's amazing I did indeed put more than one raisin in, and will cross out the incorrect title of the printed page Du pain et des raisins?

Yes, I see what you mean about variations! It's a bit like "croissant aux amandes" or "croissant à l'amande." What you can't do is have an s plural on the end of your raisins or amandes and then use the singular au or à la.
pain aux raisins or pain au raisin
oui, du pain, du vin, du fromage, du lait etc de la confiture, de la crème etc des raisins, des pommes, des fraises etc

£1.80 to take-away ?? Mine are cheap at 1 euro to eat in then Tell you what, I'll even post a couple over - though that said it does appear that the Fr-UK post is rather slow at the mo so prob not quite such a bright idea. Forgot to mention - I didn't use raisins, I used sultanas Pain aux sultanas???
