99% of phones can be purchased sim less iphones have captured market with so many good apps and virtually a portable office facility - if its for business then well worth a look at - but you'll need to ensure your french contract gives you suffcient internet access included - 1GB a month But also take a look at HTC and latest Samsung galaxy and nokias - keypads are so 2005

Like choosing a computer or car, so much depends upon what use the phone is put to.
As Wibble says if used a lot on the net then a decent download allowance is good; but if you use the phone in a wifi area ie your own wifi at home or public free wifi this is not a real problem. Using the phone networks 3g is the cost.
I have dropped my contract down to 500mb monthly and barely use a fraction of it. I connect at home and when in clients using their wifi, even in the sticks were I am most of the coffee shops have free wifi.
Now when 4g is running, france will have it before the UK, then maybe a rethink on download needs.
I have Iphones and galaxy android phones.
Ali look to your present and potential needs as the new phones are more computer than phone.

Am I in a time wharp wibble I meant keyboard/keypad like Blackberry/Nokia etc or a decent touch-screen simply to jot a reply email with. I would't use 3g, current phone has 3g. I would use wireless. Oh and Blue Tooth coz the car has Blue Tooth auto conexion for h/free. Seems that the new generation are much of a muchness? Fli has a new Samsung twin sim, love the screen res on Samsungs. Terminator has one of the posh Nokias with the slidy outy keypad. I've played with a Blackberry. Never played with an iPhone or HTC tho. How about a new question - which mobile phone would you NOT buy ;D <<just added this: how about the Galaxy Ace? reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/samsung-galaxy-ace-review-50002651/ )

99.9% of phones have Bluetooth Blackberry - don't like them myself but many others do - altho they are not so easy to set-up and sync with your PC once done and you have got your head around it should be o.k Latest Samsung are getting good reviews early models were crap I would never buy a motorola flip phone or any slide out keyboard unit they've always suffered from life span cos the flip and slide aren't very robust Just because you don't use 3g now doesn't mean to say you won't in the future and we're not far away from 4g which France will have before UK
