One of my ducks was sick so we got some antibiotics for her on Tuesday... well the long and the short of it is she must have felt a lot better yesterday as she waddled off the pond, having hardly left the shed for 5 days.... then wouldn't come in last night. This morning all that is left is a pile of feathers. Freckles is OK though, and I cannot see where Daffy could have been dragged off to and can't see a trail of feathers but I can see where something dug on the other side of the fence but didn't get thru that way. Need to do a better recce when I am not in my dressing gown but it's still a bit of a shock and I'm cross with her the stupid duck. What an ending after just recovering from being sick.

from the troll gang too. I know that horrible moment when you find the feathers too well. Maybe she didn't really recover and toddled off to die? Candle burns brightest before the flame goes out and all that....................

Oh MM, that's really sad! You were so lovely to look after her as well as you did; can you maybe take a bit of comfort in what Troll said? And her last hours were spent having fun.

Thanks you everyone We've searched around here but cannot find any remains - the only hole in our perimeter fence is one the coypus keep opening up which is small but something dug there too so obviously got in that way. What we can't understand is how it could have dragged her out that hole without a single feather in the vicinity and none up the dry stream bed. In fact can't find any feathers anywhere except the kill/attack spot (and yes there's blood on them). There are fox or dog paw prints in the mud of the dried out end of the pond bed and poo too, so the Term has taken photos to try to ID, but most likely a fox I imagine. But could a fox have eaten an entire big white duck (Aylesbury cross type!) - I just can't imagine it could eat that much. Gosh it's just so..... hmmmmm..... can't think of right words - sods bloody law springs to mind. And yes I'm glad she did have a last fun afternoon on the pond playing with her mate. But miles worse than losing a duck, is that our cat with the tumour on his spine who got totally better, so much so that we reduced his medication about 6 months ago, has suddenly started to show signs of wobbliness in one leg again. Oh god it never rains but it pours. Waaaaaaaah!!!!!!
