I was going to get a Kindle but didnĀ“t because of the download issue,it must be possible to get downloads here though,if you pay by CC and put a Uk address you can do it,I bought a Sony in the end, still had a problem with downloads, got over it by doing the above,I will say that the price of popular book downloads is exorbitant,my Sony reader is not used, also there is nothing like the smell and feel of a new book, safer in the bath too!!

Ah well better late than never, apologies for my tardiness TT, and I hope you've not already got the information.
The short answer is yes and no regarding downloading. You may by now have found that the web is full of discussions ref this topic and with conflicting information.
Been asked this question on a couple of discussion forums so I will start a Kindle / Ereader thread on this forum, if this is not too presumptuous.
I hope you don't mind TT if I do a post and it is a bit dry but your information will be in there.

Dear TT, I'm in trouble.
I have been reminded that "sometimes you can be too much of a smartarse ..... just answer the question". Wonder who told me that.
Please tell me exactly what and how you and dad want to use the kindle and i will try to answer specifically. Will the kindle be used only away from uk, will it be purchased via amazon and if so to which country or purchased in a shop. Access to a computer and / or wifi hot spots, 3G connection. UK address and uk card. Remember that all sorts of books can be downloaded to kindle not just ones bought from amazon. Even those that are not in kindle format can easily be reformatted simply with free software.
Sorry to ask more questions, off to see MIL back later bye...

Lib - there is NEVER too much info of this sort for an IT thicko like me. Rumour has it I may be bought one for Christmas/next Birthday and I plan to use it here in France and when we go on a Black Sea cruise next May. I don't go to the UK very often (twice a year or so) and therefore will be relying on being able to download to it here in France, mainly.
Between us we have a large laptop and a desktop PC, we have old fashioned (the original Nokia with the big plug in charger) mobile phones, no ipad, ipod, tablet (apart from the ones Nursey brings with her trolley) and no intention of acquiring anything for which there is a monthly payment (both mobiles are pay as you go)
Tell me, would it be worth my having a Kindle, and which sort would you recommend? (sorry, TT, for piggybacking on your thread)
