Does it do more than point and shoot though? I'm not entirely happy with my compact just because of the lack of eyepiece - still seems wierd - although for close ups I suppose it's better than putting my face right up close to a bee or something. Also in sunshine you can't see a ruddy thing on the screen so just have to hope for the best.

The Fuiji is an excellent camera for the price and give really good results. Easy to carry and use.
Like you MM I always miss having a proper viewfinder and using the screen in the sun. I bought an olympus fe 230 compact and whilst it is superb as a tiny camera for indoor and outdoor in normal conditions its useless in bright sun. I find that I am using my older olympus c-50 even though it is two and a half time thicker than the fe230, 'cos it has a view finder. Been looking for a reasonable camera to carry when I can't justify the bulk of my nikon with its extra lenses. Borrowed a cannon G10 to try, very impressed, reasonable to carry, 1cm macro to super zoom, excellent build etc. So looking for the latest model G12 or a G10 at good price. Might be worth a try if you want to upgrade.

Looks expensive but doesn't look freely available in Europe yet. The problem with these compact cameras is not being able to try before you buy - I'd never used a camera where you look through a screen before, but I'll have to put up with it now.
