Well you need to SHOW it to me so I have a vague clue how to use it, not say 'let's use my phone satnav thing' just as we are about to set off on a journey into the unknown!

We use Tom Tom and have no complaints with it at all... there is a really nice lady on it who never gets upset with us (although sometimes she sounds a tad exasperated ), and we don't ever get lost any more! Downloading the updates is easy (so OH tells me) and doesn't take long at all.

There's also an option now to choose "eco route" which I have yet to try out but which should be "fastest sensible route"
My usual plan of attack is to go to jobs by "fastest route" but have a look at the route summary and check it's not too silly and return home by "shortest route" but again being sensible and ignoring dirt tracksand town centres.

Garmin everytime. I am the only one who has Garmin on our vans and when I'm following one of the other guys who is following his Tom Tom it insists on taking you all around France before "you have reached your destination" I give up on them, follow my Garmin reach my destination have a 4 course dinner a couple of bottles of wine and rewrite the holy bible before they show up

In short they feel sorry for you

I have both systems, bought Tom Tom for the car about 7 years ago and have stuck with the same unit ever since. The interior battery died and Tom Tom say it is not a replaceable item - funny therefore that I was able to buy one on ebay for 13 E, but it did take all afternoon to install it as the whole thing had to come apart. I like the Tom Tom and have no problems updating except to say when I do I lose my Favourites which i have to then reload from the backup.
I have a cheap garmin on the bike and in some ways it is better than Tom Tom in that it has a second normally hidden screen with various trip meters etc, but on the main map screen you don't get arrival time as you do with TT. The MOST annoying thing with Garmin is that when your interior battery is low it blanks the map screen with the warning notice, it also does this when there are cameras on the route. The former problem caused me to take the wrong exit on a roundabout at Brest in pouring rain, I ended up on the motorway towards St Brieuc and passed the back of the hotel that I had booked into earlier that day!!!! Half hour later I was back at the same point by which time the battery had died on the Garmin, but that didn't really matter as I had punched it so hard I had broken the screen!!!! They replaced it under warranty! I am still using it but will soon replace it with a larger screen TT.
