Has anyone used the wi fi "extenders" (the type you plug into a mains electric socket) over here in stone built houses ?? and if so how much and best place to buy. I have my orange livebox but as typical in the stone houses its range can be limited - I've seen some wi fi extenders on the orange website but for 89 euros (incl 20 euro discount) they aren't as cheap in France as UK. I've used them in UK and work fine, but obviously with different plug options UK won't fit French sockets. My livebox is central to house on first floor and wi fi is accessible everywhere but the lounge and I don't want to start hardwiring in cables and re-decorating (yet) Thanks

Hi Wibble We have a stone house 3ft internal walls etc, we are using the extenders Bewan powerline E85plus cant for the life of me remember how much they cost but just bought from local computer shop they cant have been expensive cause i wouldnt have bought them!!! We were told if you have 3 phase electric they'll only work on the same phase as the phase the live box is plugged into (obvious when you think about it really) we have 3 phase and it is true!! www.clubic.com/shopping-121805-3-bewan-powerline-e85-duo.htmlbon chance

Cheap n cheerful solution, if you don't mind one cable running from your PC to the nearest mains wall socket, would probably be a pair of Homeplug adapters. They use your mains circuit to carry the data from your modem to any electrical socket in the house.
You plug one adapter into the mains and into your modem. You plug the 2nd into the mains in your lounge, and connect it to your PC with an ADSL cable. Kits of two adapters plus a couple of cables are quite cheap. You can get a pair of Netgear adapters (without cables) on amazon.fr for 37.35 €.
I used them for a while, then bought an Apple Airport Express WiFi extender to plug into the adapter in the lounge for wireless access -- same problem with thick stone walls. Worked very well. Stick it behind the sofa and no-one will ever see it.
Other wireless extenders should also work with homeplugs, so you could probably find a cheaper alternative to the Apple product.

Yep plugs work ok. Stone built with 36 inch walls. Run Iplayer on panasonic tv this way.
Pleased, The Terminator, you prefaced the airport express with cheaper alternative, as there is no alternative to the apple kit.
ps apple brilliant as well to stream music throughout the house with air play

Barty & Lib got me onto these things and they are brilliant! I've an ADSL (IP) cam off one down at hen-run linked to the router in the office, at least 3 x Breton walls plus around 50 metres distance so couldnt use the normal wifi.

Great, cheers for info ......... I don't usually buy cheapest but go for something that offers good value/for quality without going OTT Quality brands can be around £60 in UK. But the Orange ones at 89 euro seem pricey I don't have 3phase electric so fine checked that already

If compatible then yep the units themselves should be fine "but" just be careful when using adapters particularly if its for very long periods ........ they can get warm and short out I considered same but if I can get French units for similar UK prices then that'll do for me
