Britain and Ireland were the only EU Countries who rejected new legislation's to be able to track down and prosecute drivers breaking the law in another country.
The Directive will allow EU states to share information on millions of motorists through an electronic database
The Tort-led Government was branded "shameful" for failing to sign up to new legislation aimed at keeping death off EU roads.
Under the Cross Border Enforcement Directive UK drivers would have been prosecuted for offences committed on Euro roads and foreign drivers on UK roads and now could escape prosecution or punishment.
