Yep thats AI for you! Rather than delete everbody's responses in what they SURELY must have seen was a provocative posting, why did they just not remove the original stupid question? Ah thats easy - they are AI and they know best of course!!! As others have said, I suspect it was a case of granddaughter wanted to come over for the holiday but nobody was willing to collect her or deliver her, thus came the massive wheeze of "Well there are loads of people on AI doing the trip all the time - one of them can fetch her over!!!). Thus was born the idea. What are the parents of this child thinking of in allowing her to be palmed-off on a total stranger - one not even known to the grandparents either - just to take advantage of a free holiday? Furthrmore I cannot believe that the grandparents are not even willing to fork out for two cheapo airline seats to ensure their granddaughter gets to them safely.

I posted a response to the Escort post suggesting it wasn´t a good idea,it was deleted.I posted again asking why posts against the escort idea had been deleted, that was deleted too!! I sent AI an email suggesting that by deleting posts against the Escort request but leaving the original post they were giving the request their seal of approval, they have yet to reply!

They'll be on that site with a posting about their house being burgled next. Dosn't take a genious to work out who and where people are from just a couple of facts and as for advertising for strangers.....they deserve all they get I'm afraid when there are perfectly good professional agencies out there with vetted employees who do such work. Expect its something for nothing yet again.

As to the post shown by Jackie - Surely if you cannot cancel then you kennel the dogs, lock the house up and then go, not invite a total stranger to live in your large warm house? Am I paranoid in thinking British Style that everyone is after whatever you have, ie. you will return to find an empty house without a stick left in it? Is it that different here? Is the real answer to both these scenarios a simple case of Saving A Few Quid??

The pets one - Am I being sceptical here........ sometimes I read these things too and often they're immediately followed up by somebody who just happens to offer the service....... multiple-Ai-names springs to mind....... ok, thats being sceptical I don't think we'd be happy having somebody we don't know or anything other than a registered biz to do any pet-sitting we might need. Feel it's prob ok with a reg'd biz as they have to get it right - but a stranger......?? We're off later this month for a few days, importing our pet sitter from the UK - my dad on his yearly French break and I'm not paying him hehehehhe even better!

You're right, mirabelle, saving a few quid is certainly the issue here; maybe another cost people didn't factor in when moving to France and so now resent having to fork out?
Ali, we often have a pet lady here because Rupert is too old for kennels. She has our house key (which for London is quite daring), but she is insured, experienced, has a van in case the dog needed to get to the vet and visits as many times a day as we ask her to. OK it's £9 a visit, but we are willing to pay for peace of mind. It wouldn't cross our minds to put an ad on Gumtree! Hope your dad enjoys his yearly French break!

Its no different here in Brittany, crime is rife if you read the local press and how often you see the headline of" Aladdins Cave discovered" where local scumbag type people have burgled houses, usually foreign and holiday homes, and have all the goodies in their home for selling on. In the words of Fox Mulder "trust no one"

Whilst we are on the subject of the artificial intelligence site, beware of trying to sell things on there. I have lost faith in the number of people who are nothing more than "try-it-ons" with no intention of paying the agreed price for something and leave it either until a few minutes before you meet them or ring up just as you are leaving and offer silly money thinking you are desperate to sell - we all know they will sell it on for a lot more. Recently we had a brand new unused and not needed item for sale at less than half price the shop sells it for.Agreed a price and a place to meet up but five mins before driving off, they rang and said they could find it cheaper in the UK - won't repeat what we said to them!

We've had that too. The tyre kickers and those who offer you a fraction of what you know darned-well the item would actually cost them to buy brand new. My OH just shrugs & says "Off you go then! Buy it in uk.........." because of course they have no intention of doing so as the idea is that you (being desperate) will accept their paltry offer to take it off your hands. Not any more!
