Yep chain saw massacre all over France from what I have seen. If it were an olympic sport then the French would win hands down. Although which region as they all seem very good at destroying trees. However I have to say I think the Bretons win it, this is the only part of France I have been to where they cut everything off leave a stump/pole stood in place of what once a magnificent tree that would harbour all sorts of wildlife. I do find January such a sad month, cold (normally), wet, grey, roll on spring. Even the sales this year seem lack lustre.......or maybe I've got everything I need?

I read somewhere that for every 1 tree you chop down in France you're supposed to plant 3 in replacement - wonder if thats why they shave them?
