If you want a B&W printer then don't even think about an inkjet printer, get an old HP lazer. Why HP?.......... that's easy, all the consumables are in one cartridge so in effect you more or less have a new printer every time you change the cartridge. We have a Lazerjet 5L, it's around 10years old and cost 30quid, the cartridge is good for 10,000 ish pages and they cost around £10 on ebay.
We also have a Minolta colour lazer, this is a bit more expensive to run, but you can cut down the costs. If you buy OEM replacement toner it'll cost you the best part of £100 for a set, the Drum will set you back the same again (actually still cheaper than most inkjet's for colour printing) A 3rd party refill kit will cost around £30 for a full set. A recon drum cartridge will again cost around £30 BUT the drum is actually good for more or less double the recommended life, sadly the printer counts the number of pages you print and kills the drum. Fortunately you can reset the counter on the printer by replacing the fuse in the drum and get at least and extra 50% befor there's any noticable quality loss.
And the best thing about lazer orints is they don't run!!
