I’m told I need a SIS file (driver) to make my drive work, it will play DVD’s, but it won’t play anything else. Yet it’s the same laser that reads everything. Advent 7094, the drive is a GWA-4082N. I can not find a driver, can you help?

Well here is all of them: www.nodevice.com/driver/company/SIS.htmlBut as to which one you need? ? If you have managed to find a CD/DVD drive that does not fully function under XP/VISTA/WINDOWS7 without installing any drivers then you have A, a very rare drive B, a broken drive From XP service pack 2 onwards, these thing just work straight out of the box. From what i can see the GWA-4082N drive is a bit of a lemon with loads of people looking for 'firmware' for it with little success The original CD's that came with the PC should have the required sorfware for it but usually those CD's MIA. The easy fix is to replace it as it is just a regular slim media drive and they only come in 2 flavours depending on the connections on the rear of it. (sata or IDE) The differently designed front panels on these laptop style drives just clip on so you can either use the one that came with it or fit your brand specific one. BB

Further reading leads me to think that this LG drive is a bit of a DOG

This seems to sum things up:
LG does not support this product or offer firmware or software updates. It was an OEM product, they don't even acknowledge the model's existence. However, if you know where the drive came from, that is a start. For example, if it was an HP system it came from, then you can get the firmware on their site.

Right thanks Carl, I tend to agree with you on it being jiggerd. I tried to order a new one from the computer shop in town, but the geezer told me to try to find the correct SIS file for it first. His advice is usually very good, so I had to give it a go, but I cant find any driver for that drive in particular. Thanks for the tip about the front’s being interchangeable, as I have a drive from my old laptop, and I was momentarily thinking YES, but it’s the wrong one Just read your last post, I did find the makers website once, but their was no support for it, just a note saying that whoever constructed the computer would have drivers for it, and Advent don’t have anything on their site. So I’m presuming that it’s just a standard Microsoft driver, and that the drive must be bad. Thanks again for trying

Ear Carl, wiliest I’m here, can I get a video out from this thing by buying a dobury wotsit to plug into that socket that’s for a monitor and stuff? I want to use my laptop for my karaoke show, apparently it’s all the rage now, and one must keep up with the times. Or am I going to have to buy a new laptop with a separate graphics card?
