Thanks for the post I have wondered how things were progressing. I find it ridiculous that he was breaking rules by clearing away ivy and brambles....

Looks bad. Jamie has been told by the tribunal to take down the yurt as it was never allowed by the law in the first place. Also he is not an agriculteur and the mairie - as far as I can translate in this mornings Telegramme again - is at fault for giving him the wrong impression about temporary habitation; poor guy.

Feel very sorry for him but it just proves the point you must NEVER go by word of mouth here, EVERYTHING should be in writing however small the problem and if he had got this on paper originally that he could stay there, it would havehelped in his tribunal as proof. Also the maire often changes after six years in office so a new one would know nothing of his predecessor's decisions verbally.

I think that this is sad too, when after all it is a temporary structure and can be taken down in a day, and they were trying to care for the area....seems to me that sometimes the law is an ass!

The problem is that it would set a precedent, do you really want people to set up home ware and, as they like?
Would you like a load of hippies or gypsies setting up camp next to you?
And truth be known, he hasn’t much idea of managing woodland for the benefit of wild life, i.e. he thinks that ivy on trees should be removed. Ivy is a corridor for insects to move about, and when and if it kills the tree, it will become even more beneficial for wood boring insects that are the first step in the food chain for the rest of woodland inhabitants.
I’m all for people living alternative lifestyles, I live one my self, but I do it within the law (ish).

Well Lif already knows that Two people are not really a LOAD of people
Ivy can lead to the death of a tree, so that is why woods are cleared of ivy.
And so they made a costly mistake by buying some woodland where they assumed they could erect a temporary structure.

There are different ways of managing woodland, if it’s a stand of trees for wood you thin them out every 10 or 20 years, and then you fell them.
If it’s a wild life haven, the best approach is to do nothing, and if trees blow down due to ivy, so much the better. And the last thing wild life wants is somebody living there.
My gaff was full of all sorts of interesting wild life before I tamed the jungle, now after clearing all the brambles ferns nettles etc, it’s barren.
So it’s my opinion that the project was for self-interest.
