We all moan from time to time about the French obsession with rules and regulations impinging on every aspect of our lives, but there are some sensible rules about hedges, distance from boundaries, height, etc. which can be enforced if you have neighbours like that chap in Plymouth!

There are rules and regs in England, if my memory serves me right they are :- A hedge is evergreen or semi-evergreen. It is unlawful if it is over 2m in height or it is "unreasonably restricting " light to the property.

Absolutely true. I especially like the French legislation that says you have to be able to access the hedge from inside your boundary, essentially be able to trim both sides, which enforces the 'Plant one metre from the boundary' rule. Mind you, that blokes neighbours and the council have every legal right to trim all the overhanging branches - as long as all the brash is returned to the owner !!!!!! ;D
