Now don't get me wrong I/we deal with the public in the business we run and we make a profit on that business which pays our wages to live and eat, feed two chucks and two dogs, and gives ADMIN an occasional glass of wine now and again.
I sleep soundly at night knowing that we make a profit and not profiting (ripping off) the public.
SO - on my numerous trips to the UK I have recently been stocking up on energy saving light bulbs, something everyone has been forced to do because of the energy/global warming issue (which are a separate debate). You cannot now buy good old fashioned bulbs invented by an Englishman Humphrey Davy and improved by Edison which we all have been using for generations.
I know Tesco put a mark up on their products by at least 100% and make a good net profit on that.
SO - in Tesco they are selling a particular common fitment and wattage Energy saving light bulb for £2.50 and now on offer buy two get one free = £1.60
SO – why in Super U which must have the same or very nearly the same purchasing power as Tesco (France have same population as GB) do they sell the same brand (GEC) same packaging, same bulb for 7.85 Euros, even taking into account difference in vat/tva (If applicable on light bulbs), and the exchange rate between £ and Euro.
SO – Same product Tesco = £1.60 Super U = £6.44 (approx)
SO – Is this profit on the part of Super U or Profiting (ripping off) of the general public?
My advice – if you are lucky enough to have any spare cash buy Super U shares.
