Have you tried living next door to them? I don't agree with splitting up families and unfortunately the ones next door to us own the land, but they make our life unpleasant with noise ,filth ,uncontrolled children and barking dogs 24/7

Toby I have not had personal experience of living next to a gypsy family, although my Dad used to work with UK gypsies (farm work) I have read some of the comments you have made before about your neighbours. They sound dreadful and it must be awful. However I am not sure that the way the French Police & Government are handling this is the right way. I read an article yesterday which implied that a family that had been living in a caravan and had been moved were now in a tent, that cannot be right either.

As in any sector of society, there are folk who will live by the rules, and folk who will try to claim some special privilege. I was chatting to a 'manouche', 'GdV', use the label you like, on Thursday, and we got on to Sarko's new great idea. (He has them regularly, luckily they usually peter out after a few days media reporting.) He said that the riots we'd recently seen were nothing to do with 'Roms', they were Gens de Voyage, French for generations, who in Grenoble and St Aignan were just trying to stir things up: they were the type of 'GdV' who are forever on the fringes of criminality, and had little to do with the majority of 'GdV' who move to where the work is. His attitude was that the folk fired on by police/gendarmerie were caught 'bang to rights', and all they were doing with the demonstrations and near riots was making it worse for the majority of their community, who were just trying to get by.
The Roms are another case entirely, but a convenient target for a 'president voyou' who needs to draw attention away from a couple of really big scandals that put his government, and his governance, at risk.

Last night after suffering screaming kids(approx 20) all afternoon and evening we went to bed at 1015.
Awakened at 1145 by loud fireworks which went on for 20 mins, and terrified the dogs, called gendarmes who were very "busy" and couldn't or wouldn't come.went back to sleep. At 0130 reawakened by loud music with a heavy bass line which shook the walls, and kids shouting and screaming in their garden 15 metres from our bedroom window, called again and made a plaint de tappage nocturnale which I was told was "Notee". 15 mins after I made the call the noise diminished a little, because they saw the lights come on and knew I'd called les Gendarmes again and also that it took the cops 20 mins to get here from Rochefort-en-terre. Personally given the opportunity I would stand them against the wall and pull the trigger. I have never in all my 68 years actively HATED any group of people before, but then there is a first time for everything. Maybe Hitler had a point after all

Bum. Is it enough to make you want to sell up and move or do you think it would be impossible to sell now with them there?

Oh jeez TJ what a nightmare. I Know exactly how you feel as we had the locateurs from hell living down the road from us for a while with their industrial sound system, but luckily they moved on (did a runner owing lots of rent) after a while. But it was awful while it lasted feeling on edge all the time & dreading the weekends... Guess you must have been to the mairie & filed a complaint? These type of people are plankton & make others lives a misery & don't care one jot.
