Electricity prices to rise Aug 15
ELECTRICITY prices will rise from August 15 by an average of 3.4% The price rises apply to government-fixed tariffs.
The tarifs bleus (householders) will rise 3%, the tarifs bleus pros (professionals) up 4%, tarifs jaunes (small to medium businesses) up 4.5% and tarifs verts (large businesses) up 5.5%, the economy ministry has announced.
Previous rises were 2.3% in August 2009 and 2% in 2008 and come on top of several large rises in the price of gas.
According to European statistics body Eurostat, French electricity prices are on average 5% cheaper than the European average. It is the second cheapest country after Finland.
