Browsing the tinternet is taking longer & longer for my laptop. Pleeeeze could someone advise me if it's worth perhaps buying one of those ('plug in?) gadgets I've heard about which increase your pc's memory? My laptop's credentials are: Packard Bell Easynote E2310 256 MB DDR memory 40GB Hard disc drive 64MB shared Video memory thanks Jackie

Sometimes its not the PC at fault but simply a housekeping issue - when was last time you had a clean out of unused files, programmes and a system defrag ........ think of it as a big filing cabinet and everytime you use it you may not put all files back in correct order ....... if it was once quick enough for your use ...... whats slowed it down some anti-virus software can slow things down ?? Before chucking have a spring clean and delete or save to an external USB pen drive and get all your system / reg files and directories in order

Jackie, I'm guessing you are using windows XP.
256Mb of ram (system memory) is totally hopeless with XP and it will be like treacle trying to navigate around different windows.
The fact that you share 64Mb of that with the graphics side of things (leaving 192Mb for XP) only makes things worse.
You have 2 memory slots and a max. system memory of 1Gb (1024Mb)
Soooo... what you need is:
2x 512Mb strips of 200-PinPC2100 (266MHz) DDR SODIMM
Your slow processor is not gonna help much but taking your system memory from 256Mb to 1Gb will be a revelation!!

Plus, as wibble says, a spring clean and you'll work wonders
