Not a new year person really - I found out long ago that they always promise more than they deliver, so this year, as we are with family in the UK, the suggestion is to wander down to the local (with the kids) for a while. Very much doubt whether OH and daughter will make it 'til the witching hour although expect the granddaughters will have a damned good try. Enjoy your fruits de mer Tinks and hope you (and everyone else on the forum) has a good new year.

Will be in bed I guess......we used to make a 'thing' of New Year, especially when my stepdaughter was here. She would insist on celebrating French New Year, and then an hour later British New Year.....but now all I hear are distant fireworks....
Hope all on the forum have a happy, healthful and prosperous 2015....

Having a son who was born at 12 minutes past midnight on January 1st 1978 we stopped doing anything that involved alcohol consumption because we always had to be doing something/going somewhere on New Years Day. Usually tucked up in bed these days because we aren't even asked to do grandparenting duties on New Years Eve these days We are not miserable buggers or anything but "forced" jollity doesn't attract Anne & me. Probably a platter of various meats, some crusty bread and a bottle or two of vino and in bed for 23.00. ps Our son,Fred, was the first baby born in Scunthorpe in 1978!

We will celebrate on our own this year.In the Uk it depended if OH was working or not. We now usually have a nice meal bottle of sparkly and are very happy doing this. If our neighbours are still up and about we sometimes have a glass with them.

I struggle with new year in France. In the UK I always went to the pub around 21.00 and saw in the new year rolling home about 01.00. Here in my little village it always seems a little low key. It is more family orientated here. In the past I have dressed up in DJ's with other expats and hit the town( village really ). This year I have invited a few friends round for a buffet and a few drinks then hit the town but I have a feeling we will be home before midnight.

Quiet here too.Possibly watch a film and see in the UK and French New Year because I feel if I don't. that old age is here!!Usually an anti climax, a bit like the boring Hootananny ( excuse spelling). Mind you peace and quiet will be good after a Christmas with 3 Grandchildren and their parents. Where do they get all that energy?
