Mini changed from belts to chains in 2008,when you have a belt changed on the older ones you have to have a new water pump fitted as well!! Just had a wheel bearing and a silent block done on mine for the CT and it weren't cheap!although it has made a huge difference to how quiet the car is. JBC has a UK car here till just over a year ago and he would agree with your comments Sonic about overtaking etc.

Hope you get sorted soon, Sonic. I agree about it being easier here with a LHD - we arrived with two RHD's but soon changed to just the one LHD and a bicycle (lol) but the LHD makes very interesting driving in and around Portsmouth and Birmingham. Haven't tried London as yet.................

I appreciate you looking JohnP but that's a 4 hour, 300+km round trip for me. I'm trying to look a bit closer to home and besides not having a car means relying on someone else to take me to view cars. I really wasn't wanting an estate car either, as it's only for me and I was thinking of something a bit smaller.
Anyway, I've been down to the garage and though he could repair the car, until he takes the engine apart there's a question mark over how extensive those repairs may be. Certainly over €1000 and possibly up to €2000...as the car cost me €1000 it didn't seem worth it, so I took the rest of my stuff out and gave him the carte gris so it could be scrapped. A friend took me up to a local car dealers but there wasn't anything in my price range that I liked....plenty that was above it for sure....

Poo and more poo Sonnet !!
I agree anout LHD being easier here. My car is LHD but we have another which is RHD and to be honest I find them both ok. Far cheaper to buy RHD from the UK as they've no european market to sell to....
Good luck and yes, I also think buy another instead of spending money on current....

I've made an appointment to view the Citroen on Saturday afternoon. The person selling it sounds pretty genuine anyway and gave a plausible explanation for the higher than average km.The car just passed it's CT a couple of days ago as well. My Mum (bless her) has taken on a short term loan which she'll transfer into my account so I can pay for the car. How she can get a loan (not a payday one) as an 85 year old pensioner living in social housing I'm not sure but hey.... pachypach : I don't think I'll be going down the lease route now, I did some research but it seems quite complex. This site has info, www.francelease.com/ but does seem to be angled to those in business rather than plebs like me....

Good luck for Saturday, Looks a nice little car. I like Citroens, comfortable, inivative and nice to drive. The main thing with high milage cars is that they have been serviced regularly, especially oil changes. www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/citroen/c3-2002/There are a few tips on the above site about what to look for when buying a second-hand C3. Forarmed is forwarned as every car has has an achilles heel or two. Makes life easier if you know what to specifically look for. Bon chance!

Thanks for the link JohnP, very informative. I'm hoping he may move a bit on the price and I'll use the high mileage as a bit of a lever. I'm really not trying to be too hard on the guy but my cash is limited.
