A year ago I went to CPAM Rennes, with my form, to get a Carte Vitale independent from JBC.Previously I had been his dependent but with my own Carte.Utility bill, passport,RIB,all the bits required were handed over.Several months later, and after nothing happening,I returned to Rennes to enquire. To cut a very long story shorter, I was told that I didn't live in 35,so my card had been cancelled. Now we have lived here for 7 years, same address, so this was news to me.My details had been sent to L'Orne where I DID live!! All very odd but eventually I learned there is a person same maiden name, same birthdate, living in L'Orne.I was told that it would be sorted out but nine months after the initial visit nothing had progressed. In desperation I phoned the English CPAM helpline and this morning THE letter arrived, informing me that I now have an entitlement to a Carte Vitale. It has taken one whole year! I'm thinking of booking a double session with the as a form of celebration.

Goodness, Britchick, I got mine about 7 or 8 weeks after applying for it. I'd been worried as I was part way through my physio on my shoulder and also wondered whether my 100% for my diabetes would have changed - but all is well and our mutuelle still works the same. I think I've been very lucky

The funny thing is ,when I was at Grammar School there was in my class a girl with same name and birthdate as me. I wonder if it the same person in L'Orne?

Well didn't I speak too soon!! This morning I received another letter from CPAM with a Carte Vitale in it. A Carte Vitale with a picture of "the other woman "on it!!!!! Same number, exactly the same details but her picture. So.....I phoned the English helpline, the same one who told me I could use my old card, and they have told me I need to return my old card and the "other woman's",wait for a form to come through ,send it back with a photo of me and wait. I am so pigged off especially after finding out that "her" birthdate is 3 days prior to mine,so it's just the maiden name that is the same,so there is even less of an excuse.Bloody French! and

Good grief! I wonder if it's worth your trying to get in touch with 'the other woman'? No doubt she's having the same nightmare as you

For the most part everything seems to go quite well here albeit slowly. However when it does go wrong it always seems to be in a spectacular fashion and the system seems totally unable to cope. A burocratic system which is totally inflexible managed by intransigent people who are totally unable to think outside the box equals nightmare. Been there......got the T shirt.

The plot thickens but in quite an interesting way....The young lady at the English helpline, confirmed that I have to send back the carte with the "Other woman" on,she also sorted a account for me on the Ameli site so I could watch as the new carte was organised. I went on there today and on profile noticed the phone number was not mine! JBC suggested I ring it to see if it belonged to the other woman. It did and after we'd chatted she commented that she'd been to school with a girl of the same name, I said that I had too. Then I asked where she came from, her answer was Bournemouth, than I asked which school she had gone to to which she answered BSG........she IS my school friend from way back. How small is the World and what a coincidence! we have exchanged numbers, well I had hers and are going to keep in touch. Amazing stuff. The only down to the day was discovering her husbands reimbursments listed on my Ameli a/c, my bank details were correct though, the whole thing is a HUGE cock up.

Have sent the Carte Vitale, with the wrong photo, back. I wonder how long it will take for an application form to arrive?
