Awww thanks LK and Tinks. I had loads of seeds left over which I was planning to either save until next year, or plant up in a week or two's time so that the growth was staggered. Unfortunately they too were in the greenhouse in a tupperware box which came undone when everything was tossed about during the storm and are now sodden and useless!.
LK... is it too late to plant parsnips and cabbages, please?

Hey that's good news...... thanks again LK. Would it be ok to plant them straght in the ground, or should I start them off in little trays?

Hey that's good news...... thanks again LK. Would it be ok to plant them straght in the ground, or should I start them off in little trays? I suggest that you start the cabbages off in a tray, but the parsnips will be fine to sow straight into the ground. If you are interested, the moon cycle for Roots (parsnips) starts again after 16.00 on Thursday, and all day Friday and the next Leaves time is next Monday through to 16.00 Thursday. Of course, it is up to you, you don't have to be 'looney' like me! Good luck

Oh what a shame about the greenhouse. Not too late for many things, I have had some awful problems with germination so I've only got tiny little cucumbers and courgettes barely worth planting out yet and still tiny tomatoes in the cold frame! All we are eating are tons of strawbs and finally have some early sown Little Gem lettuces which I planted into a cold frame in the veg patch which are nicely hearted up. The spuds haven't even flowered yet and need another earthing up so haven't even thought about whether they would be ready. (Actually not sure that Belle de Fontenay flower or not - must check that).

Thanks LK and MM .... will get planting again!!!
Unfortunately we have a meeting with officialdom tomorrow at about 11.00 then, as we will already be in town, we are going to do the shopping so not much time left for planting. Friday I will be cooking all day as it is the "village picnic" in the evening, and we all bring a selection of dishes to share around Just hope it stays dry!!!
But I have been trying to follow the lunar planting calender whenever possible.

I blame Ali. I went and had a nosy at one of my 'new' potatoes. Ended up digging all the spuds up from one plant and now have enough for dinner...... for one person. ;D But actually it was a good test for soil moisture cos if we don't have a lot of rain soon I'll need to get the seep hoses set up on the top of my ridges.

I'm not even going to comment on your ridges.
It's always my fault ;D
Well I dug up 2 plants, enough new tatts for us 2 and they were out of this world.
Was at Carrefour t'other day, Isabelle is a lady, my favourite one, who works on the tills. I was buying a packet of froz peas and she laughed and said to me something like..... you English love peas don't you... somewhat puzzled (as there are always great stocks of frozen peas) ..... I replied, well yes, from time to time we do (thinking what is she on today)..... she continued.... "and you put mint in them!" she was pulling faces and going 'blerggg' at the same time. I says, mint is lovely in peas have u ever tried it? She says yes, her friend does it and she spat them out! I says - well you must try them in new potatoes ..... she nearly puked ;D

Hahahaha.... our neighbour's reaction was much the same, ali! Funny how the French just don't seem to like mint isn't it, even though there are loads of mint plants for sale everywhere. Wonder what they use it for? Must ask Armond next time I see him.......
