Yes, thank you P&J too coz I've just gone down and picked a tray full and yes, the ripe ones are loosing their middles! Have picked the green ones that easily come off the tree and laid them outside for today to see what happens - might go get a banana later

Poached a load of ours this morning(after peeling ,halving and coreing) all in freezer now.Also made upside down pear cake for after tea. Yummy!

Lucky I went over to our orchard yesterday afternoon as our earliest tree had already started to drop some and lots were coming right off in my hand. They all have scab but won't harm once peeled. Actually have some decent sized ones too!

Picked some the other day as per pandj's instruction and caught them just right !! Poaching pears today, just waiting for the final mintues to tick by as we speak...... Using 2nd hand jars of course!

Cross cos some of our are overripe - it's SUCH a tricky business this pear picking and getting it right *bashes head against wall*. Also knowing when they are ripe once off the tree is difficult as some varieties aren't ripe until there is some give, and some are ripe when still very firm!
