You're picking them too early ali - they do need to ripen on the vine if you want to keep them.
They look very good though.

No am not, the vine was dying away from the 2 I picked today so ner And - to be perfectly honest, if I didn't get Flis help to pick that whopper left any longer I couldnt have carried it to the barrer on my own - it's HUGE. We've had a weird 'summer' hot to start and colder now, they is confused like the rest of us I reckon. I have one that 'fell off' the vine 2 weeks ago and put in the house and it's perfik. The rest I'm leaving there til they drop off too ......

Erm wotcha gonna do with all that pumpkin? You can't eat all that! I have the opposite problem, these (only 2) Jack Be Littles have the hugest bloomin' plants I've ever seen and have totally swamped my sweetcorn and self seeded tomatoes but have only just started to have female flowers and little pumpkinny things, which are supposed to be little. My cucumbers died off within 3 weeks of starting to produce. there's a lot of curcurbit disease and they do start going manky quite early sometimes. Put them somewhere sunny Ali to ripen up - if you have room in the greenhouse or in one of your cold frames (if they will fit!).

Thing is I think they are ripe, well the 3 that are picked anyway. I love this site: www.allaboutpumpkins.com/index.htmlQuite frankly I have no idea what we're going to do with them I have a distinct feeling that the hens are going to get a lot of pumpkin over the winter............ I think I grew the wrong variety really

Whoppers update They're all doing fine! I'd left them on the floor in front of the patio windows til today. Finally got so fed up with hoovering round them that they're now in the 'cave' layered with cardboard. Cut one up to take a peek and it is super smashin' so carved it up and making commercial sized soup! Result Tho next year I'll not plant them in the potager coz they took up far too much space, going to put them somewhere in the flower beds!
