Glad to have a load more yesterday evening 16mm as I dug up some spuds yesterday afternoon and it was still dry more than a couple of inches down, and that after 28mm over 3 days! Shows just how dry it is here under the surface. Sarah Beeny says that a mature tree like a sycamore will drink 2,000 litres in one day - that's two IBCs - where would they find that kind of moisture cos it sure as hell doesn't exist here except in the dormant season!!! ;D

RAIN....rain....What's that?....I've forgotten.... It is so hot here...unbearably so, yesterday we spent most of the afternoon in a local restaurant, celebrating a friends birthday, and thankfully the manager turned the air-con on full....bliss... But when we left the restaurant it was like opening the door to our oven, the hot air outside blasted us...oh how I wish that it was raining..... Anyway we staggered back towards our home, our mouths dry and parched , desperately needing liquid we scanned the simmering horizon, looking for an oasis , where we could revive ourselves.. And there, low and behold.... a bar , and we gratefully satisfied our thirsts, had another beer...or was it 3 ....for the road...and then scurried back to our humble abode, where I turned on the air-con and collapsed on the settee for most of the evening... Today it is forecast to be even hotter..... Regards from Sunny Spain, GG...

Ditto! Wouldn't be able to grow anything except olives and citrus trees. Nice, but! I couldn't cope with the heat actually - would rather live in Scotland. Saw your cold soup being made on Rick Stein in Spain, GG - the almond/bread one.

M&M....Pandj... We do manage to grow more than olives and citrus...at the moment I'm getting a really good crop of tumbling tom tomatoes, and peppers ... But boy is it hot here !... I should be used to it now after 20+ years in Spain, but the climate has changed since we first moved here...and of course I'm a lot older now.. OOPs I forgot to post the recipe for the cold soup, anyway glad you saw it on the Rick Stein programme...really yummy...the soup...not Rick Stein Got to go and get some work done now...before it gets too hot..! CU......GG..

Where are you Dinky (you can put your location in your profile)? We are in the Centre, near Blois .... (Loire et Cher).

GG - was thinking more of the flower beds type of gardening rather than the tomatoes/peppers/aubergines etc that would be happy in your climate. I don't think English herbaceous border style would. ;D

M&M.... Agreed.... But we do have a good show of French Pansies ..... In fact our patio is awash with brightly coloured flowers, but I have had to cover the flower bed areas with green mesh stuff, so it's more like a green house...not the most comfortable place to sit...bit like being in a sauna...I have lost 2 kilos in weight during the past 2 months though.....really needed... ...so not complaining.. And the large family of Geckos that live out there are loving it... Regards, GG.....

One of the hottest days of the year (probably) yesterday and what happens today? Rain.
Did anybody get those fantastic lightening shows overhead last night?
We were out watching til after 10pm, they were miles form us but right over the top of somebody.
