Been up to the veg patch today, surveying the weeds and directing OH who was spreading compost from the dalek composter. It is still blinking cold out and there's not much growing up there, just the remains of the winter veg - some sad looking sprouts, purple sprouting broccoli, leeks, parsnips and carvelo nero (black) kale. I read on another forum that this black kale will send out flower shoots like the PSB does so - it is supposed to be very tasty. It survived the ice and snow and you can just cut it and it sprouts more tender leaves from the top. I find it is nice steamed and finely shredded in minestrone soup. What have you lot got growing on your plots....?

We've got a few mangy (minjy) sprouts left hanging on to their last breath, and a few onions in doors - thats about it. Just rotovated the veggie patch this afty and trimmed up some of the fruiting bushes. Lashed the thornless blackberries down and made them a new support. What a beautiful day for doing in the garden

Two rows of red onions, that I planted about 2 weeks ago, before the ice age started! And a whole new bed of raspberries (from Troll) are doing well. Roobarb is sprouting, but frozen ground, and a wind that cuts you in half, has stopped play.

Have some purple sprouting broc that's now ready to eat at last. Also a few leeks left a few parsnips & some swedes still knocking around. Planted some red & white onion sets on Sat but was very chilly....even with threadbare thermal gussets...

The kale has duly sprouted and I cooked some of these sprouts (which look very much like PSB) to go with yesterday's roast dinner. Can report - they are very tasty! If anyone wants to try it for next winter, I've a few seeds left to share. Happy to post them if anyone is interested. Used a few more leeks and sprouts too. Broad beans and peas I planted are popping their heads up. Just need to clear the plot to plant out 'em now.

You are lucky to be eating your purple sprouting. Ours hasn't 'sprouted' yet. My best green crops over winter have been everlasting spinach and pak choi
