I had an ice cream maker for my birthday as I have a lot of soft fruit that I thought could be put to yet another use and have used it three times so far, but last night's Raspberry Yoghurt ice cream was the best ice cream I have EVER eaten so I am going to share the very simple recipe with you! 250 g raspberries 100g caster sugar 300ml plain yoghurt Mush up or blend rasps then sieve if you want to - I did. Mix up bog standard plain yog (I used Bien Vu so nothing fancy! but this could be amazing with Greek yog) with caster sugar and the sieved raspberry juice. Chill it first then pour into your ice cream maker et voila - wonderful pink ice cream (same colour as this forum!), really creamy (wouldn't know it was yog in it) and the most amazing concentrated fresh raspberry taste. Soooooo simple and low fat too!!!!!!

I have one with freezer built in. Wanted one for years but couldn't justify the price. Found this one in car boot sale for £3.
Haven't used it recently but planning to this summer. I like it made with fromage frais

Gosh Sally those ones cost hundreds of £ or €! Mine is one of the kind where you keep the bowl in the freezer then take it out and attach the lid/motor when you are ready to churn the ice cream. I did some research on sites like Ciao and decided on the Magimix 1.5 litre one. Jolly good so far though I can't see me using it in the winter! Most of the complaints about it were of the 'it takes up too much space in the freezer' kind, but I've got plenty of freezer space. Bought from Amazon in £ as it was cheaper than in € and it cost about £60ish.
I forgot to say that the above recipe only makes about 3/4 of a tub the size of a Carte d'Or one.

Oh an aside - the bowl wouldn't have fitted in my upright freezer as it is too tall for the drawers but I have a chest freezer - the bowl is bigger than I thought it would be from the photos.

I've been experimenting with my ice cream maker. I'll give the yoghurt a go soon. I bought 3 large pots of double cream back from England with me so I have been making ice cream every day to use it up before it goes orf! Can't wait to some sorbet.

I also did a (home made) strawberry jam and greek yoghurt ice cream - well it tastes rather like frozen rice/tapioca pudding slathered in strawb jam! My husband thought it was fabulous but must admit I do prefer the fresh fruit flavoured ones, though so far I have only done blackcurrant, raspberry and banana. Haven't tried sorbet yet though that was more the original idea (being healthier and all that!!!) though I think plain low fat yoghurt is fine too.

Brandy and Baileys icecream always goes down well at christmas (and easter and in the summer, not forgetting in autumn)
