Note to self (and others interested) - next big high tide is March 21st. Co-eff 119. BIGGEST of the year. 14h52 L to 20h07 H. 0.1m to 13.25m. I'll probably be at GenĂȘts (Normandie), if anybody else wants to come along and meet up msg me. Feel a pique-nique coming on

Shame we are not over as that is our nearest beach,a few more high tides and the little bar up the slope will end up in the sea if they are not careful. Have a good visit. Dave

I didn't realise that you are over there David. I adore Genets and Dragey. One day I will have a little cottage along that bit of coastline..... Have a few people coming along already, it'll be a long wait from low to high but worth it for the views I foresee a few beach games coming on lol. Planning to follow the coast through to Ardevon afterwards for some photos of Le Mont in full tide (Light permitting)

When I say nearest, it is about 20 mins away we are near Isigny le Buat about 500 meters from La Palliot restaurant which is my most favourite place for lunch in the whole world, well nearly. I have a photo of the Mont with the tide doing it's version of the Severn Bore on my lounge wall in Warwick along with a painting of our French house it just helps the dreams :-) Dave

Fantastic views coz didn't go where everybody else does Therefore avoided the huge crowd scenes Here's the 'vague' report .... (there's a prize at the end if anyone answers the question correctly....) Arrived at Genets 16h00 for the lowest tide. The sea withdrew 10km from the baie. Had hoped to be able to walk out a long way but it is so flat there that the surface is treacherous (spl?) loads of sinking mud away from the usual coastline. Genets is great. Beautiful sandy beaches. It looks back to Le Mont Saint Michel so from our vantage point we'd be able to see the tide advancing and filling the 'estuary'. It was 'blerdy cold' but we were prepared. Coffee within the shelter of some dunes helped us through the 3 to 4 hour wait..... The excitement started to hit at around 18hr when we were sure that we could see the sea advancing (or was it a mirage?) then from about 18hr30 til 19hr is was spectacular, hundreds of sea birds in close formation swooping together plucking the confused fish from the turmoil, turning light to shade, the rumble, a flat constant sound, of the advancing current and the visual of the advancing 'vagues'. Once the sea had filled the lower levels it spilled out to reach our feet. It, sincerely, was an experience out of this world. Not in terms of speed but of the power of nature itself and they way nature takes advantage. It was something that myself and those that joined me will not forget. The prize winning question - what is a 'vague?' By 19hr we took the route south towards Avranches, an area I knew would be packed with people, but my goodness it was grid-locked! Seriously grid-locked. Cars had parked alongside the narrow roads meaning that it was one-way only. We were stuck. Jammed in. But we'd seen what we wanted to see. A few manoeuvres and we escaped onto clean highway but it took over an hour to extricate from a 5km drive. Note to self for the next time: Allow 2.5hr before high tide, not 4. Wear one more layer. Take wiskey. I did do a video for youtube today, it was stunning, but my pc decided to corrupt the whole file whilst publishing (I'd spent about 4 hours creating the darn thing) so given the time I will start again over the next few days. Meanwhile here a 3 photos ..... as you can see we picked the right place - open views/no crowds
