I have been struggling for weeks trying to program an EEPROM for my Rover.
I removed an old 93S56 chip and tried to amend the memory and copy to a new chip, I have now discovered that that is not possible as part of the memory is protected to stop people from changing mileage etc.
In order to do what I need you have to have a special virgin memory bin file and write that to a new chip, then you can edit the file on the chip to change simple things like KPH to MPH etc, the recorded mileage will then be corrected by the cars ECU software using data from of all things the light switch module.
I can only write the necessary file to an 93cs56 EEPROM which are considered obsolete.
I have obtained a virgin memory dump so just need the chip now, one of which is on it's way to me but I would really like two to play with.

Thanks Bob. How the hell did you find them? Curious though, they seem to be saying that a 93cs56 is = (equivalent) to a 93s56, it isn't!!!! I will order 1 and see what arrives Pete.

"We decided not to offer an automatic online shop, as electronic spare parts are a demanding sector and we often have to get back to our customers to obtain or provide more information."
Bugger, I'll have to ring on Monday.
