Is there anybody on here who could either erase or replace a soldered on EPROM.

The best way to remove the EPROM is to cut off the legs then remove the solder and legs with a solder sucker and a fine tipped hot soldering iron.
I have a temperature soldering iron you can borrow if you are near to Loudeac.

The full story. I have a Rover 75 and want to replace the Instrument Pack with one that has a message centre, I have sourced a used part but the mileage on these cars is recorded in three separate units, if I just fit the unit I have bought I will get errors with the recorded mileage. My only option without sophisticated computer equipment is to swap the Eprom using the one from the original unit or copy the original to a new chip and fit that. Pete.

Can you not sacrifice the board for the sake of the EPROM?

I should point out the obvious Bob.
I am not an electronic whizz, I can build simple circuits from circuit diagram's but that's it.
I am a little unsure about this project because if I damage the existing chip or program on it then I would have a big problem, I would need a T4 guru to re-create the program which is specific to a car.
I could take the easy way out and wait until I take a trip to the UK and take the parts to a specialist T4.
The other reason I want to try is that swapping head units is a common swap on Rover75's and if I can simply swap or copy the Eprom then I could pass on the info for other 75 users.
