Free in rough terrain. Head down. Nose busy. Quartering, this way and that. He's on to something...
Pace quickens. Still head down, nose busy. He's closing in... Up whirrs a pheasant. It's gotta break cover to survive. A jewel of a bird now scudding low. Giving off a warning cry to all around. Rabbits pop back into their burrows. Rats dive for cover...
Jake chases. Just watch him go. Weaving round tussocks, bounding through water. Full tilt. Oblivious to everything else. Lock-on....
He comes back, panting. Eyes bright. Vicious teeth white. I admire this beautiful animal. He's got talent and he lives in Britain. It's all the BGT I'll ever want, or ever need.
ps: That's twice three times I've edited this post. Trying to say what I mean. Trying to convey something precisely. It's motivating for me to try. I don't expect everyone to try. I'm not saying that they should try. But the World, it's said, loves someone for trying, however much they fall short. I wanna be loved by the World, so I'll try....

That's beautiful, and after watching the boy Fada racing around like a super charged lamb, your words strike a chord with me. We love our new boy with a passion that I didn't think I would feel again after watching Toby dog being put to sleep. You have an amazing way with words Annon.....and BGT is crap in my opinion to bring this down to Earth.

So BC liked the flowery language, and made a connection with Fada JohnP made a quip which gave pandj a laugh. Sp expressed exasperation. All of whom bothered to post. You've gotta admit that's better than posting nothing.

If you're a baby rat, and you come too close to my back door, you may not grow up to be a big rat...
Such was the hard lesson learned this evening by one member of a new litter. Since Jake started to live indoors I've noticed more rats around in the garden, and in broad daylight too. He used to be on watch 24/7 and I never saw any, only his kills. Now he pops in and out through a dogflap - I had to butcher an oak door to fit it - and the rattle it makes as he goes through must make them dive for cover.
But tonight the back door was left open, on account of the warm weather, and Jake went out silently. It may've been a while since he last had one. He seemed keen to get another. Head down, nose busy...

Dear BC person, who keeps a dog named Fada...
As if by a visitation from On High I was struck by your reflection on how Fada has eased himself into a place in your heart, following Toby's passing...
It's meant to be. Toby has passed on the baton. He's given up his place so that another may profit by it. Fada deserves another chance, which you're now giving him. Those of us with certain convictions believe it was all arranged by forces we'll never come to understand. Fada was sent to you.
It's very moving and also inspiring. It's humbling. Those of us who keep a dog know that it will always return 1000-fold any kindness we show it. Dogs are a conduit to something else, they bring us out of ourselves and make us see things in another light. They re-define our values.
If you can, get a dog. Get a rescue dog. A Heinz 57. Not for social prestige, but for the essence of the animal. Never, through it, will you know love greater. It's meant to be...

He has brought so much joy to us. He is quite a lot like Toby, loves being touched ,follows JBC round all the time and is just so funny. He's filled the huge gap left by Toby and I know we have done something good for him by giving him space and fun.Now the next big decision is do we get him a friend? Hmmm..

Yep, I second, third and fourth that, our rescue boy has given us nothing except utter love and devotion. As opposed to him being ours, we are most definitely his. He has brought such joy to our lives and I like to think we have brought stability & love to his.
