Don't know about car spares, but my son tried to take a very small cutting disc (4") and it was confiscated.

Once brought back a set of brake pads on a Ryanair flight......caused a bit of consternation at security x ray but they did a quick bag search and all was ok.

Pre 9/11 I once took a table on a plane to Spain - caused a lot of intrigue as it wouldn't go through the scanner - eventually they took me and my table to El Al checkin (which was closed) and opened it up as El Al had big scanners.
More amusement followed on the luggage carousel in Spain where the passengers waited to see which donkey was going to pick up the table. I let it go round and round ( along with a stay pair of knickers WHICH WERE NOT MINE) until everyone had gone.
I also brought a load of copper pipe to France on - believe it or not - Ryanair - Ironically it was made in France but considerably cheaper in the UK.

I got 'pulled' at manchester airport a couple of years ago, I had a family size pork pie in my hand luggage which I had bought at the famous Bury market, I just love the things! I was asked to open the bag and a relieved customs officer looked over to his colleague at the scanning screen and said its Ok its a pie! I asked him what he thought it might have been and he said cemtex!!!!! I said Oh no you cannot get that at Bury market, he said "bet you can"!!!! I got home and my son eat the pie whilst I was out - glutton!!!

I read that one of the most commonly confiscated items before UK to France flights, is Marmite. Obviously customs Hate It!
