We kept a copie of our licence if anything like that would ever happen. We were told by the DVLD that would be ok.

Yoho...... Off to Lorient once again this morning with all the doctor's papers and cardiologist papers. After a wait of nearly an hour, I get to present all my paperwork. The first thing the administrator does is reject my utility bill because it is more than 3 months old. (It is the same bill I presented initially a month ago and it was more than 3 months old then and accepted)My French friend explained that it was the most up to date bill I have as I pay monthly for electricity and only get a facture once a year and I don't have gas. He begrudgingly accepted it but said it might be rejected down the line. I have to ring up in two weeks and if all has gone through the system, I must return with my current licence to exchange it for my new one. Isn't life great.....

Hurrah!!!!! 5th time lucky. I have my new French licence AND they have re-instated all my groups.
AND it is the new type Permis de Conduire, a photocard licence just like the UK one with no paper counterpart.......but.... the photocard is only valid for 5 years not 10 like UK one. My basic group(car and light motocycle) has no expiry date but Bus groups expire in 1 year and HGV and towing catagories expire in 2 years so I guess I am going to get to know Lorient quite well.
